David Gurevich, a visiting scholar in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University, will offer an introduction to the geopolitics and complexities of Jerusalem today, followed by a Q&A and light refreshments.
Dr. Gurevich is an expert in the Archaeology and History of the Land of Israel. He is the founder of Ambassadors Online, a University of Haifa project that trains Digital Diplomats and Israeli students in skills to participate in international dialogues. He spent the spring of 2014 in Rome as a member of the Israel delegation to a UNESCO Israeli-Palestinian dialogue project.
This program is being presented in memory of Elaine Shapiro, a long time member of Shir Hadash on the six-month anniversary of her passing.
Shir Hadash is a small, Reconstructionist congregation committed to a welcoming and egalitarian approach to Jewish practice. We invite you to participate in our rotating schedule of rabbi-led and member-led Shabbat morning services and Friday night potluck dinners each month. We also offer adult education, social action, and social activities throughout the year.
Shir Hadash meets in the Social Hall of the Lutheran Church of the Newtons, 1310 Centre Street, Newton Centre, across from the municipal parking lot adjacent to Learning Express and Pure Barre.
