Chelsea Jewish Tours returns for another year of experiencing Chelsea’s rich Jewish immigrant history. Discover Chelsea’s Jewish heritage and the city’s dynamic evolution to the vibrant, diverse place that it is today. A rich mix of Latino, African and Asian cultures leave their distinctive marks in Chelsea. While no longer a strong physical presence in Chelsea, Jewish communities have also left signs of their once-vibrant communities. You just have to know where to look.
On this walking tour, Ellen Rovner, Ph.D., will peel back layers of history for you, deftly illustrating the distinctive and common narratives of Chelsea’s complex immigrant experiences. Carefully researched and deeply connected to the Chelsea community of today, Ellen’s walking tours are also personal as she harkens back to her own roots in this city and her family connections to the memories of Chelsea’s Jewish community.
Each tour is unique and may include visits to such Chelsea landmarks as the Walnut Street Synagogue, Temple Emmanuel, Dillon’s Russian steam bath and, of course, Katz’s Bagels, birthplace of the pizza bagel.
