An evening of music, trivia, games, and refreshments for adults with headliner: Singer-songwriter Sam Mendales. While Sam’s lyrics drift nowhere near dreidels or miraculous Maccabees, critics identify a Jewish sensibility in his canon, perhaps due to an upbringing on the “Delta” in Queens. Sam’s songs range from topics like amorous snails, middle aged love and a blues tune about a young man (probably Jewish) born to be an accountant.
He has been writing, recording and playing his music professionally since his callow youth and has played coffee houses, bars, house concerts and other interesting venues from New York to Austin to L.A. as well as Rabbi Liza’s Bar Mitzvah year celebration at EC and he provided the music to the performance of The Devil and Billy Markham.
His recordings have been played on KUT FM (Austin), WBUR, the late WCAS, WUMB, WERS and in a bizarre moment, Radio Brussels. He is currently on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. He is well-ranked in Cambridge on ReverbNation.
Sam lives in North Cambridge with his wife Judy Rakowsky and an unknown (to her anyway) number of guitars.
