This peer study group will read and discuss the Piaseczner Rebbe’s short gem of a text, B’Nai Machshava Tova (Conscious Community, Experiencing the Divine, or Positive Thought Society). It was originally hidden and then miraculously found in the Warsaw Ghetto after WWII. This beautiful book was written by Rabbi Shapira in the 1920s for a small circle of his students. His central thesis of cultivating positive mindfulness within a sacred community of spiritual seekers resonates with many of us today. Each session will be led or co-led by a participant or participants. There are 3 options to obtain the book:
1. Conscious Community: A Guide to Inner Work by Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapiro: https://www.amazon.com
2. An alternative online free translation available: B’nai Machshavah Tovah–Experiencing the Divine: http://www.shulman-writer.com/experiencing-the-divine.html
3. Hebrew text: http://www.gotjudaica.com/Product.asp?product=fel-chovat-hatlamidi
For the first session on Sunday, January 8, at 2:00-3:30 pm, please read the introduction and then chapter 1 (The Goal of the Community) through the Chapter on Guided Imagery (In Conscious Community: pages 1-21).
We will meet in Classroom 4 on the main level.
